THE Warburtons School Visitors team have been named Health and Wellbeing champions at the Food and Drink Federation Awards.

Among the team are Alex Aitken and Mike Nixon, based at the baker’s depot in Morse Road, on the West Ham Industrial Estate.

The pair have been Warburtons School Visitors since June 2014, delivering workshops to primary school classes which introduce children to the basics of cookery and the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.

In the last year they have engaged with over 3,000 pupils across 113 schools in the region, including, Kempshott Junior School, Silchester Primary School, Chalk Ridge Primary School, North Waltham Primary School, Oakridge Junior School, Dove House School Academy and The Ashwood Academy, in Winklebury.

Delighted to receive the award, Alex said: “The local community’s appetite for the programme has been really positive, which shows that schools are clearly seeing the need to educate children about food and nutrition from a young age.

“A good diet is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle, and we look forward to visiting even more schools this year as we introduce children to one of life’s most important skills.”

Warburtons was shortlisted alongside other well-known companies, including Danone and Mars Food UK.

It won for enriching food education amongst school children across the UK, whilst encouraging long-term and meaningful partnerships with local communities in the areas close to Warburtons’ bakeries.
