LG Motion has acquired a Dorset-based ultrasound equipment manufacturer.

Gary Livingstone who is managing director of the leading manufacturer of motion technology products based in Houndmills, Basingstoke, has acquired a controlling interest in Precision Acoustics.

Gary said the firm’s Dorchester site will continue to operate as a production and development centre for acoustic and ultrasound components and that its identity will be maintained.

The company which has a turnover of more than £1.5million and employs 15 people, produces hydrophones, ultrasonic transducers, scanning tanks and other acoustic measurement products that are used all over the world.

Delighted with the deal, Gary said: “This is an excellent addition for LG Motion and it’s enabled me to more nerdy than usual – I love technology.

“Some of the things they are working in are absolutely fantastic.

“The move allows us to offer our customers a wider product portfolio, particularly in our positioning and scanning solutions.

“We believe this is the beginning of Precision Acoustics setting a new benchmark in the ultrasound measurement market in terms of product performance and customer service.”

Gary was particularly pleased that he was able to use the services of local firms to secure the deal, with Old Basing chartered accountants Lane Monnington Welton, Basing View law firm Penningtons Manches as well as using the services of NatWest’s branch in Basingstoke’s Top of The Town.

“I felt I had the A-team working for me,” explained Gary “It’s good to use local firms as it makes business so much easier and it’s good to use a fellow Basingstoke Town FC supporter,” added Gary, referring to his accountant Mark Lane.

Mark praised Gary for the success of his LG Motion and MiniTec UK businesses.

He said: “We were delighted to have assisted Gary in his expansion in acquiring such a successful company, which will complement his existing businesses perfectly.”

Precision Acoustics was established more than 25 years ago by its former managing director Terri Gill, who has taken the opportunity to retire.

Existing shareholders, principal research scientists, Dr Andrew Hurrell and Dr Paul Morris will maintain their interest in the company and will continue to oversee product development and research.

Terri said: “I couldn’t be happier with the new partnership following LG Motion’s acquisition.

“The potential synergy, particularly in mechanical and electronic motion control, will help drive the technology and product development skills of both companies.”
