ERNST & Young joint administrators of City Link Limited have announced a further 230 redundancies at the courier company.

This takes effect between January 7 and January 15 as depot operations close across City Link’s UK sites over the coming eight days.

A total of 51 City Link depots will be permanently closed by January 15, although a small number of back office employees will be retained at some sites.

No jobs will be retained in Basingstoke, with the last three posts, of what was once 25, going at the Bilton Road depot, on Kingsland Business Park.

As the depot operations close over the coming eight days, the remaining 20,000 parcels in the company’s network will be sent to City Link’s Coventry hub from where they will either be collected by customers or returned to customers through an alternative parcel carrier.

Joint administrator Hunter Kelly, said: “It is with regret that we announce further redundancies at City Link, which will take effect over the coming days as the company’s remaining UK depot operations close.

“Having returned a large volume of parcels to City Link Link’s customers and recipients over recent days, it is no longer viable to continue operating these depots and a phased plan to close them has begun.”
