STAFF from Adecco took to the Basing-stoke streets as part of the recruitment agency’s Way to Work Campaign Day.

Kim Gordon, principal branch manager, at Adecco, in Winchester Street, explained that Way to Work is a global campaign aimed at tackling the growing problem of youth unemployment.

“Adecco wants to encourage, inspire and create optimism amongst young people who have been hardest hit by the worrying shortage of jobs,” said Kim.

She said that in the UK, the unemployment rate for 16-24 year olds is three times higher than for the over 25s.

As part of the campaign, Kim and her team paid a visit to Brighton Hill Community School to give advice on looking for employment.

Kim said: “We took part in an informal careers drop-in session at the school to talk to students offering advice on how to make their CVs look good and how to stand out from the crowd in the job market, along with the dos and don’ts.”

Her team also spent time outside their Winchester Street office talking to passers-by.

Kim and her team were full of praise for the young people they spoke to.

She said: “They were interested and took on board our comments and advice. I was really pleased that the day went so well and that we managed to speak to so many people in such a small time frame.

“If one person secures employment based on what they have heard today, then we have achieved what we have set out to do.”
