A NEW budget store on Hatch Warren Retail Park was officially opened by the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane today.
The new 5,400sq ft Poundstretcher store is in a unit previously occupied by DVD and games rental chain Blockuster.
Councillor Dan Putty, accompanied with his wife the Mayoress, Julie Putty, did the honours cutting a ribbon wishing everyone “happy shopping at Poundstretcher.”
The Mayor, who is a borough councillor for Hatch Warren and Beggarwood, said he was delighted that the new store had created 14 new jobs.
“I’m also very pleased that this retail outlet will be providing discounts on everyday items and offers on housewares on a vast range of products.
“It will be customer focused and will welcome everyone to experience bargain shopping at low prices.”
There was certainly quite a crowd prior to the official opening as Poundstretcher staff gave those queuing outside a free £10 voucher to spend in store.
