ALMOST 59 per cent of small and medium-size enterprises in the south believe the Government is not helping businesses to export, according to research carried out by accountancy and business advisory firm RSM Tenon.
The RSM Tenon Business Barometer – a quarterly survey carried out by YouGov of senior management in SMEs – said only 18 per cent thought Government was helping businesses export. However, it also reported that £13million of funding has been awarded by the Government to help 10,000 more British firms export.
The funds will go to UK Trade & Investment to help more companies to make contacts and sell to overseas markets.
John Taylor, RSM Tenon’s Regional Head of Tax for the South, said: “Of the SMEs surveyed in the South, 42 per cent are currently exporting, but 50 per cent have not even considered it, which is surprising, considering the strength of overseas markets compared to the domestic market and economy.”
