THEY clearly have a recipe for success at Newlyns Cookery School – and now the team have scooped another culinary award.

The North Warnborough business beat dozens of other cookery schools from across the country to win the Best Use of Local Ingredients accolade at the British Cookery School Awards.

The British Cookery School Awards judging panel agreed Newlyns was a worthy winner and demonstrated an absolute passion and dedication to using local ingredients.

Head judge Nigel Barden said: “We like the way Newlyns makes the local produce the hero of many of their classes, and the fact they use produce from at least 15 different local suppliers.

“Teaching young students how to turn local soft fruit into jam, and seeing cattle on a farm tour made into beef lasagne, is true integration of local produce into the cookery class programme.

“Students can also learn how to make seasonal game dishes, following lessons on plucking, skinning and gutting.”

Abby Janaway, from Newlyns Cookery School and Farm Shop, added: “We’ve won a number of awards over the past few years, but this is the first time we’ve taken home an accolade dedicated to cookery schools.

“The school is a thriving part of our business and local ingredients are extremely important to us, so we’re thrilled to receive this award.”
