FARSITE Communications certainly impressed the judges with their understanding of the export opportunities in a high- tech cutting-edge industry.

Based at Tempus Business Centre, in Kingsclere Road, Basingstoke, the company was set up in 1998 by directors Dermot Smith and Steve Scott to provide data and voice communications products and services for the business sector.

Now it designs, develops and manufactures high-quality, high-performance WAN Commun-ications Gateway Appliances, adapters for PCs and servers to more than 100 countries, and it has an impressive international client list from the world of banking, government, aerospace, military, 3G and retail communications sectors.

“I am absolutely delighted to win this award – it’s been an amazing evening,” said Dermot.

“Pretty much all our sales are exports all over the world, to China, America and Europe – that’s what we are all about really. Last time I checked, 93 per cent of our sales are for export.

“We have got a lot of exciting new products coming on line, and we expect those new products to produce new revenue streams and open up some new markets.”

Fellow director Steve Scott said: “Exports have been increasing every year – even in our first year we exported 30 per cent or more overseas and it’s just grown and grown.

“We are getting to the point where it is almost all export, especially with the downturn here in the UK, but we are still finding those markets.”

The award was presented by HSBC area commercial director Andy Brattesani, who said the judges were impressed with FarSite’s sustained progress and research and the way they have demonstrated a real understanding of export opportunities.
