Young Fins strike gold

BASINGSTOKE Bluefins capped a great start to the season with the team’s Academy, County, Junior Performance and Performance squads winning their first trophy.

First trophy: Basingstoke Bluefins' academy, county, junior performance and performance squads. First trophy: Basingstoke Bluefins' academy, county, junior performance and performance squads.

That was in the new Hampshire and South Coast Junior League, where the team, who are all aged under 14, had a convincing win.

Not to be out-swum, two Bluefins teams are currently competing and hoping for a top place and promotion to the Premier division in the National League competition.

The A team returned from Bracknell last month with an excellent first place, beating Winchester Penguins by 12 points.

The competition is not expected to get any easier as they enter the second leg of the National League in home waters at the Basingstoke Aquadrome later today.

All the action starts at 6.30pm and spectators are welcome to come and support the team as they take on Wycombe District, Newbury, Havant Aquatics, Littlehampton and Alton.
