OAKLEY Girls under-16 Girls are celebrating after an amazing season as they are now the top side in the area.

One year ago, the Oakley team just managed to raise a team prior to the deadline to enter The Winchester District Girls Football League.

At their first training session last September, some of the girls struggled with the rules and some panicked when the ball came near them.

One year later, they can proudly boast of completing the quadruple dream winning the league, plate, Oakley Tournament and Fair Play Award.

Due to their total dedication at training and a wonderful team spirit with a never say die attitude - Oakley Girls played superb flowing football and simply improved each week as the season progressed.

Having won the league by one point from Petersfield, they then approached the end of season tournaments with such enthusiasm it was no surprise that they defeated very strong teams including Southampton Saints, Warsash, Totton, Petersfield, Portsmouth and others to establish themselves as probably the strongest team in Hampshire.

Their incredible season was even more pronounced when the league gave the Fair Play Award to the Oakley Girls.

Not bad for a village team who struggled to raise a team at the beginning of the season and all have signed up for this season.
