Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two round-up

Basingstoke Gazette: DJS Telecoms move to top of Division Two DJS Telecoms move to top of Division Two

DJS Telecoms sit two points clear at the top of the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two table after results went their way at the weekend.

DJS beat Labour Club 9-3, despite an early scare. Lee Neal gave DJS an early lead but goals from Nick Coombs and Matt Waite had Labour ahead inside 20 minutes.

However, the leaders netted three more before the break, with Dan Dedman netting twice, either side of Pete Lomax’s strike.

Four goals in a 10-minute spell after the break had DJS out of sight, with Neal, Dedman, Lomax and George Lagden all finding the net, Dedman completing his hat-trick.

Mike Hill got Labour’s third but DJS completed the scoring through Lewis Smith.

There was a shock result as Hampshire Irons, who began the day level on points with DJS, were held 2-2 by bottom side Sherborne St John Reserves.

Rory Hatherall gave the strugglers the lead on the hour and while Michael Wood leveled, Tom Brickley restored the home side’s advantage with 10 minutes left. Kieran Dent earned Irons a point but they lost ground in the title race.

Bounty United and Twenty-Ten played out a 1-1 draw. Jordan Willis had Bounty a goal up at the break but Joe Hill equalised 20 minutes from time.

Struggling Basingstoke Athletic picked up a good win over AFC Aldermaston A. Ashley Russell and Nathan Read’s penalty had Athletic 2-0 up at half-time, while Aldermaston were awarded three penalties in the second half. Two of them were saved by Athletic goalkeeper Sean Martin but Craig Broughton scored the third to make the final score 2-1.
